Oh man, I am so terrible at keeping this thing up to date - let alone updating or keeping promises of updates. How awful of me.

The Spring semester ended, and I told myself that I was going to draw tons over the summer -- so far I've done nothing but play video games (mostly pokemon, and a bit of Tera if you were curious).

Today, I was watching some drawing videos on youtube and I decided I needed to do some sketching. I had planned on working on the Kemetic Hourglass characters - doing revamps, and redesigns and all that rot.

I drew Ibis while in illustration, and I liked how she turned out, but I really want to pull away from that semi-realistic style. I feel like when I draw that way I'm overly critical of how it turns out. I want things to be enjoyable.
I was watching some videos that :iconthe-ez: had done on her youtube - specifically her video about clean pencil lines. I'd never thought to use my kneaded eraser like that. Mostly I used them for charcoal when in class, and I've had a rather iffy relationship with them until now. Though I still don't like the sticky feeling I get from holding one, I've found that a lot of my sketches look cleaner using her methods with the kneaded eraser. I'll definitely be trying it out a bit more.

While getting caught up on some shows and watching youtube, I've done a couple of sketches of Ibis -- one that was a younger version (about 15-16 years old or so, though I may have to adjust it a little), and one of her a bit older with the scar on her face. In the second drawing of Ibis I did today, she seemed a bit more exotic looking, and I really liked that. She was very lovely, despite the scar on her face - so I think I'll be trying to utilize that a little more in further sketches.

I'm going to TRY to draw more with what's left of the summer. I kind of have to remind myself to do it and not be lazy about it. I tend to want to draw more when I watch others draw, so if I keep up with watching speedpaints and the like, I should be alright. I was planning on drawing enough that I would finally figure out what I want my style to be like. I'm still kind of on the fence about how I want to draw. There are a lot of artists here on DA that inspire me, and I think that it's good to have that kind of inspiration. I always feel like drawing when an artist that I enjoy posts new work - especially sketches. I love seeing someone's process.

In particular, right now I feel like the style of art I want to create leans toward artists like Skirtzzz, Fukari, The-Ez, and MechanizedArt -- somewhere in that range, at least.

Hopefully in the next few days I'll have some sketches and the like to post - including the ones I mentioned of Ibis that I did today. So, fingers crossed I can get out of my rut, off my butt, and post something.

I'm curious how they turned out. Especially the exotic look considering her race in the story. I understand not wanting to make it too realistically styled. I just hope you're not going for TOO CARTOONY a look either.
