Hey Guys and Dolls!

I just finished finalizing the set up for my new Patreon page! I've got it all set up and live for those of you who may be interested in supporting my art in that manner - plus you'll get all sorts of goodies for becoming a patron!

Also, I've set up a Discord server for all of my fans to come and hang out in! Patreon patrons will have their own private channel where they can talk and hang out and ask questions! There will, howevver, be a general channel where everyone can come hang out and talk about art, games, or whatever they like!

The best part about Discord is that it's a free application! You can use it on your PC, Mac, or your phone (iOS and Android), and barring that, you can access the Discord servers from any web browser just by logging in! I think it's a fantastic way to hang out and chat with people, and it's much safer to use than skype!

Also, I recently had a very successful collaboration stream with the wonderful Noelle M. Brooks where we did 4 Pokémon fusion cards! After the fact, we talked about how much fun it was to do collaborations, and we're thinking about doing one every month! Each month we'll pick a day and a theme to do some ATC cards during a dual stream! This is really exciting for me! It's a whole lot of fun to do collaborations with other artists on Twitch!

I'm thinking about selling digital copies of some of my artworks for a few dollars in the shop - what do you think of this idea? Do you think that buying a digital image pack for, say $5, is worth the cost? If the image pack had 5-8 images in it, or included special sketches? I think it's a neat idea, and it's definitely something that I want to look into in the future, but I think I need to talk it out with you all and think on it a while before I actually go through with it.

I've also put up a monthly income goal over on twitch - I don't expect to hit it right away, but it will allow me to properly gauge the amount of income I actually generate each month, since I'll put donations, shop purchases, wishlisth purchases, and patreon subscriptions into the total. It's going to be interesting for the first few months that it's up, I think!

I think those are all the major updates that I need to go over for the time being -- I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and are having a fantastic 2016 so far!

XOXO,
M

Hi-yo everybody!

I know that I don't update my journal often enough, but I wanted to let everyone know (again) that I've been doing quite a bit of streaming over on Twitch of my artwork! I start -- and finish -- artwork there! That's why you've been seeing so many completed works pop up in my gallery as opposed to the sketches and half-finished things I had been uploading in the past!

I've done a LOT of art cards/ATC/ACEO (whatever you want to call them), as well as some larger - more complete - works. Here's a sampling of what I've been doing over on my twitch channel:

Here are the mass collection of ACEOs that I've been doing - a lot of these have been sold, won in a giveaway, or traded off -- but a good chunk are still up in my shop on my website. Also, most of these designs, even if they've been sold can be re-done. There are only two images that cannot be re-done.

Here are the two that are for sale that I cannot make alternate versions of:
ATC-Portrait2 by EternityEmporium ATC-Portrait1 by EternityEmporium

I think that I'm gong to put an image in the description of the cards that have been sold or given away or traded...this is the image I'll probably use, which is basically a mock-up of what my wax seal looks like, though I don't add ribbon under it when I package....maybe I should start, it does look pretty neat, I think.

I've gotten a commission as well that I'll be working on fairly soon, and I'm drawing a little bit of fan art - or rather a fan character. It's just a sort of tender supportive note for :devidzamii070:, who's been going through quite a lot lately. She doesn't know me, but I heard about what happened to her, and I'm just furious about it. It's hard to get that tough skin about your own art, but at the same time people should learn the difference between a critique and bullying someone. Art is a form of expression, and people can do it however they want to do it. If you don't like what they're creating, there's a simple solution - don't look at it. You don't need to bully or harass the person because what they're depicting isn't your idea of perfect... The whole SJW movement and craziness that's been going on is just insane. I understand the want to stand up for something or someone, but if doing so hurts someone else in the process, you're not accomplishing anything - in fact you're going against the idea of helping anyone. You can't say that you want to help someone or some cause when, in doing so, it causes someone else to get hurt. That's just hypocrisy.

Ok. Enough of that. I've redesigned and opened up my website:

There I've put together a gallery of sketches, final works, videos, and even commissions. There's a contact form, as well as a little bit of information about me - but most importantly, you can check out my shop and buy original artwork! Eventually I'll be offering prints and the like, but right now all that is in the shop is ACEOs and larger original works.

I'm also holding a holiday special! If you buy something from the shop and use the code "HOLLY2015" when you order, you'll get 10% off! I do ship internationally as well, so that's not a problem! Also, if there's an art card that you see above that isn't listed on the site as being for sale, you can contact me via the form with a request for that card to have another edition made up! Right now all of the cards that are listed are 1st edition cards.

If you want to keep up to date on when I go live on twitch, or just when I do updates of artwork in general, my twitter is probably the first place to follow! Every instagram update gets posted there, likewise it's posted when I go live on twitch. When I can't make a stream, twitter is also what I will update to let everyone know -- the twitter feed is also featured on my main page, so if you go there, you'll be able to see what's going on quite easily!

While I may not write a lot of journal entries in the future, I will do my best to keep the gallery updated with scans of the works I do during streams! You can also see my schedule of streams by visiting the main page of my website and scrolling down a little bit. There's a calendar there for the week that shows when I'm scheduled to stream on Twitch. Keep in mind, however, that this is liable to change in the semi-near future. I've been streaming in the early afternoon and ending in the early evening. This is getting increasingly more difficult for me, so I may be switching to night-owl mode, where I stream primarily in the evening -- this would accommodate the west coat US as well as, I feel, those over seas.

Right now my tentative schedule for streaming is: Mon/Tue/Wed/Fri/Sat from 12PM - 7PM EST. I say it's tentative because I'm looking at changing my schedule to an evening one, since that's more "prime time" than the schedule I have now. I'm looking at shifting to 9pm EST to 3-4am EST instead. I'm much more of a night owl, so this would work out better for me in the long run. Right now you can view my present schedule on my website -- which you can get to by clicking the sign above, or just by visiting www.eternitysemporium.com

That's about all I've got to say for now, but there may be more things to add later. I'm updating all of the visuals here to match up with my twitch and website. I'll be doing that to twitter and tumblr as well at some point when I have more time. I don't have a lot of free time because of streaming. I spend all my free time editing video for youtube, or doing other things that relate to the stream. It's definitely a full-time job right now!
All of the artwork that I'm selling on my shop is available for prints here on DA, but also you can purchase prints directly from me if you send me a message about it.

If you do happen to come in stream -- let me know that you found it through my DA, my youtube, twitter, facebook, tumblr, or even my instagram! It's nice to know where everyone's filtering in from!

Thanks everyone!

  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?

    - Quite a long time, actually. I believe I got my first account when I was 18 or 19 - which would be like... 13 years ago. Almost as old as deviantArt itself!

  2. What does your username mean?

    - It's my name! Well, my first and middle initial and my last name.... Before that it was EternityWaits (I think) which is my most used handle online. That one.... I don't quite remember the story behind, but I really liked the sound of it so I've been using it on various sites for quite a number of years (maybe like 7 or so)

  3. Describe yourself in three words.

    - Illustrator, Nerd, Dinosaurfangirl

  4. Are you left or right handed?

    - Mostly right. There was a time I was pretty good with my left hand due to my right arm being in a sling for a while, but I'm out of practice. I do, however, have a video up on my youtube channel where I did the non-dominant hand challenge... it's kind of amusing and scary. You can see that here.

  5. What was your first deviation?

    - This was not my VERY first post, I'm sure. I had an account before this one - before you were able to change your username. That account no longer exists, and all of the work that was on it was removed. But this is the very first image I uploaded to THIS account. I have ones that I posted that are older, though. They're mostly in my gallery's Sketchbook section, or in scraps (though a lot of those are also in my sketchbook section).

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
Secret Project - concepts round 1 by EternityEmporiumSchool - The Fool - Flat Colors by EternityEmporium06212014-druid by EternityEmporium
Compilation - Eilonwy by EternityEmporiumCopic - Aurora by EternityEmporium

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
        bust comm 4 doria-plume by rann-poisoncage

    131008 wraith by bara-chan

  8. What was your first favourite?

    - One of my friend's characters, Mint!
    .Mint. by darkangelus

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
lumen by loishCamelia by yasa-himecomm: Suki3utts by GeeKei
Amora and Roses by Parorororoses and thorns +VIDEO by pencil-butter
Pele: Volcano goddess by QueenAshiNever Lasting by yuumeiJayjay by VivzMind

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

    - That's such a hard question!!!! Artists like bara-chan or VivzMind , The-Ez , GeeKei , rann-poisoncage , Fukari , briannacherrygarcia , IntroducingEmy , AdamWarren , Neolucky , Miiya , MediaViolence ... There are just TOO many!

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

    - Any of the artists that I listed above that I don't already know personally :)

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

    - Other artists continue to inspire me to continue working on art. If it weren't for being able to see so much talent in one place, I may have stopped a long time ago. And though I don't have a lot of followers like some of the people that I enjoy following, I'm thankful and happy for every favorite, comment, watch and Llama that I get!

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?

    - I primarily work either digitally in Photoshop, SAI, or Manga Studio. OR traditionally, using colored pencils and Copic markers. Though the marker addition is fairly new, I enjoy it a great deal.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

    - Home. At my desk. Watching other people create art is always inspirational to me. After watching a really good show or movie is also inspiration for me to create. Weird dreams are another good source of inspiration...

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

    - I love the big memes that happen -- like the devID bandwagons that get started up, or the create your own Gemsona from Steven Universe. Things that get a lot of the artists together on devArt and introduce them to other artists that they might not have otherwise seen in a normal sense. Those things are amazing, and those are some of the best things on dA, I think. I think there should totally be more of those going on!

Twitch Stream - OFFLINE by EternityEmporium
Hey guys! I've recently started up a streaming schedule over on Twitch.TV where you can watch me while I draw, LIVE! I'm still getting things set up, but I do already have a set schedule:

Monday - Friday
11am - 3pm EST & 9pm - 11pm EST

There's another site that I'm working details out with where I'll be streaming weekly on Sundays -- I'll post more on that once I've gotten it all sorted out.
Right now I'm only streaming digital work, since I don't have a decent webcam to stream traditional or marker work with.
A lot of the streams that I put up on twitch may also end up on youtube as speed-draw videos, so even if you miss a stream you'll most likely get to see the drawings and sketches that I do during it by visiting my youtube channel!

Here are all the links you need!

Twitch: www.twitch.tv/eternity_waits
Youtube: www.youtube.com/user/eternityw…

So come on over and hang out whenever you like!

Design updates + Copic Markers

Hello everyone!

So you may notice that my main page is going through some design and color changes. While I love the old dark, grungey stripes - I feel like they were just too dark. So I decided instead to go with something a little bit lighter. So, Mint, white, and Gold it is!

In other news, I'm still doing the daily sketches -- But I've also started doing Copic Marker drawings. I'm not very skilled in markers, so I'm still practicing at the moment, but I'm determined to get better with them and hopefully get my Copic certification eventually.

To practice with my new markers, I've started drawing a new series of images - Modern style Disney Ladies (mostly princesses). So far here's what I've got:

Copic - Snow White by EternityEmporium Copic - Cinderella by EternityEmporium Copic - Aurora by EternityEmporium

I started with Snow, and went down the line of films, in order. So: Cinderella, and then Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Next I'm going to work on either Elonwy from The Black Cauldron or Ariel from The Little Mermaid. While they're not really serious drawings, and are just practice images for marker coloring, I'm really enjoying how they're turning out so far.

School has been pretty hectic and crazy, but I'm surviving somehow. I graduate in the spring, and I've got my portfolio site in the works (it's live right now, but not really complete). My Illustration teacher is thankfully going to be helping me with how to promote my site, and what to put on it and the like so that I'll hopefully get a decent job. She's got so much faith in me, and really loves my work. So I can't help but feel as though I could do something great eventually!

I am really enjoying these markers. While it was a really expensive investment, I feel as though it was totally worth it, just like my investment in colored pencils and watercolor pencils. These are all things that I will probably use on a semi-regular basis. I also picked up a wafer-light box and a daylight desk lamp for when I have to work later in the evening or at night. They've both been super awesome, and I'm really glad that I picked them up.

One of the other things that I ordered for myself recently is a Midori style travel journal that I plan on using as a travel sketchbook where I can switch out and customize the insides. I bought some Moleskine Cahier booklets to put inside once the journal jacket arrives (it's in the mail). I've decorated most of the books with cardstock and fabric tape, as well as some distress ink around the edges to give them a bit more of a used or old-fashioned look. Once the journal cover arrives, I'll take some pictures and post them up. I'm quite excited to have a cute journal.
The pattern of the journal is actually the mint and gold bird background that I've got up, and there's an elastic band with gold and mint chevrons that holds a pen. I liked the combination so much that I decided I wanted to shift my site looks to Mint, gold, and white. I have to say that I'm enjoying the brighter colors already. It's a lot of work going through and updating all the galleries, and graphics. But in the end, I think it will be worth it.
I think what will take the longest is going through and updating my social media sites - especially Tumblr, and twitter and suchlike.

Oh well, I'll get it all sorted out eventually, but for now, those are the updates. Expect more Disney Lady marker doodles in the coming weeks!

XOXO
-M

And in with the New...

So, 2014 was a busy year for me at school, but I managed to get through it - even if I felt like pulling my hair out a lot of the time. But 2014 was full of good times too! It marked 3 years with my boyfriend (we're almost to year 4 now!), making tons of friends at school, my senior project being exhibited at school, getting commissions for book characters and cover art, celebrating my birthday with my friends at school (even when they didn't have to be there that day).... It's been a great year, and I'm hoping that 2015 will be even better!
Here's a look at my year of art in review:

2014 - A Year of Art by EternityEmporium

The last bit of work I did this year was on my friend Kat's novel -- She's commissioned me in the past to do character portraits (both silly and serious) for personal use, or various publicity events and the like. But This year I signed a contract with her to be one of the major artists for her publishing group, Darkflame Books. This basically means that I get to do a bunch of art for her, and it also means that I get to keep the rights to post the artwork after I've made it for her, which is super awesome! Here's a peek at the cover of her novel, Lost & Found:

Every year I make the same sort of resolutions. Diet, exercise, draw, teach myself something new....Well, this year I'm taking a bit more initiative - on the art front, at least!
I went ahead and bought myself a daily drawing journal -- 365 days of sketching! Since I've only ordered it today (January 1st...well now 2nd), I won't have the actual journal for about a week. But, for now I'm going to do sketches in my little travel sketchpad so that I can paste them into place later once the journal arrives.
I'll be attempting to upload the sketches every day on my various social media sites. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram - as well as here on deviantArt. Each one will be numbered and dated. I can't promise you that they wont' be potato-quality photographs of the sketches, but I'll try to scan them in as often as I can. If I can't always do that, I'll eventually update the potato-pictures with scans when I get the chance to do a batch of scanning.

There's a new folder in the gallery that says "SketchDaily" - that's where you'll find the uploads once they go up. This folder is right at the top of the stack, so you can't really miss it! To start it off, here's January 01's daily sketch:

That's about all there is to say at the moment. Hopefully I'll be posting a lot more, what with this sketch daily business. I'm also hoping to have more projects from my Illustration class to put up this semester. This is my last semester at University, after the spring I graduate, and I'm not sure what I'll be doing with my life. I'm hoping that I can get a job doing art, rather than being stuck doing something I hate forever. We shall see what the future holds.

Happy New Year, guys and gals. Hold onto your butts.

xoxo,
M

New Stuff and a RedBubble!

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 16, 2014, 8:22 PM

Hey folks!

So I've been super busy with my senior year at University, but I've just uploaded a whole mess of things that you might be interested in checking out:

Mature Content

Never Knows Best by EternityEmporium

Mature Content

Best Never Knows by EternityEmporium
Calavera Anemone by EternityEmporium Light Magnolia by EternityEmporium Dark Magnolia by EternityEmporium Best of Friends by EternityEmporium

All of these are projects I've been working on at school for Illustration or for my senior Thesis show.

The images for Never Knows Best and Best Never Knows are probably the images that will end up in my Senior Thesis show this coming December! I spent a lot of time updating the images and am super happy now to have them to the point where I've taken all the comments from my peers at school and have updated them to the point where I can begin to color them in now.

The other big update is that I started up a RedBubble shop!
The little icons off to the left have been updated -- the final one being a simple red bubble to indicate redbubble (mostly because the icons I use don't have a redbubble version, and I couldn't seem to make on myself that didn't look weird).

All of the images I linked to above are now up on my Redbubble, while they're not all available here due to size restrictions or artifact errors (for some reason deviantart prints and such don't like transparent PNG files all that much). The other neat thing is that you can get them as t-shirts, and canvas bags, and pillows, and stickers over on RedBubble - so please go check it out!

If you see these icons:
redbubble Button by Amanora redbubble Button by Amanora
then they're definitely over at the shop in various formats!

I'll hopefully be uploading a few more little things here and there sometime soon -- school's been a bit rough, but when I've got colored versions of Never Knows Best and Best Never Know sorted I'll be uploading those for sure!

Cheers!
-M

My deviantART Story

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 7, 2014, 10:02 AM

I started my account on deviantART when I was about 18 or 19 - I'd never heard of it before, but I loved the idea that I could post my artwork and my writing somewhere where other people could see it, and give me feedback on it. I chose a silly name that sounded good at the time (skunkmonkey) and went with it. Posting up pretty much every crappy thing I'd managed to do with my brand new tablet, or any short story that I'd managed to write -- some of those stories and poems are actually posted on this account as well.

When I'd grown out of the name it was impossible to change usernames, so I made a new account. New, pristine. I transferred over some of my old favorites, and all of the artists that I followed. It was a fresh start. I vowed to be a bit more picky about what I put into my gallery. I can't say that I've held up that vow 100%, but I think I've done well enough.

Over the years, one thing I know for sure, is that I can come back to my account on deviantART and see the progress that I've made. It's refreshing, and nice to have somewhere, other than my own hard drive, where I can view a timeline like that -- and what's really nice about it is that others can view that progress too.

I use my account now to post work from school, and concept ideas, and projects that I try to work on. But I also use it to follow artists that I admire, artists who inspire me to create more art. While I have a modest following, I hope that my art can be as inspiring to them as others have been for me.

The images I've chosen are all somewhat recent works, done with a combination of mediums. It's interesting for me, to see things like this put together, to see how my own artwork changes over the course of such a short amount of time. It pushes me to keep working toward something that  I can call my own.

Happy Birthday, deviantART, and thank you. Birthday Llama by Evlwolf

Updates!

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 19, 2014, 10:16 AM

I took a bit of time today to update some things on here -- mostly graphical tweaks. I changed around some stamps, added some sprucing up things to my journal entry and the general layout of my main page. I'm going to scan the sketches I did of Ibis, as well as work on some things today that will all be uploaded later on in the day.

I've decided to switch over from Livestream to Picarto - Since Picarto is specifically designed for art streaming, I think it's a better choice. So, props to Slugbox, because it was through his streaming that I found the site at all. I've updated the streaming graphic accordingly, but didn't notify those of you who've fav'd it. I'll only do that when it's updated to online status. Please note that my picarto channel is set to "adult" which means there may be nudity, language, and the like, so it's probably going to be considered NSFW for the most part.

I'm going to really make an effort to draw and/or stream some art stuff every day. I'll also attempt to put up more speed paint videos and such over on my youtube channel on a somewhat regular basis. I'm sure I'll have plenty of videos that I can work on to slap up over there, I'm just going to have to sort out what times I'm going to do video editing. I'm hoping that by forcing myself to draw every day, I'll get into the habit again. I've really been slacking off with art stuff, and I know that's the reason that I continually get annoyed and displeased with how my artwork is going - I'm not doing it nearly enough!

I was recently linked, by my friend mike, a tumblr post by Slipshine that stated they were taking submissions for comics. Admittedly, I've thought about it before. Considering how difficult it is for me to be happy with my style and how things have gone with me attempting to draw comics, I don't know if this is the best idea. I'm not 100% sure if it's a paying thing or not (I think it may be), so it could possibly count as paid experience. There's no guarantee that I'll even get accepted if I do submit anything, but it may be worthwhile to at least give it a shot. I spoke to Jon about it, and he thought it would be a good idea, and that I should go for it. So, we'll see how that goes. He gave me  a pretty good idea for what I could do for my submission, so I'll be working on that off and on. It's not something that I'll probably be able to post over here on da, but sketches and the like will probably end up over on my art tumblr, if you're interested in that sort of thing. There will probably be postings of character concepts and the like up here that are safe to post up on da.

Commissions! I've opened up commissions because I'd like to earn a little extra money this summer. I'll be putting up a standard commission info graphic sometime before the end of the weekend - if you'd like some information now, feel free to send me a note here, or an e-mail (you can use the little mail icon at the top of my journal).

That's just about everything I can think of right now, but if something else comes to mind I'll tack it on later to this entry or a future entry.

And now, lunch time!

UGH

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 18, 2014, 11:52 AM

Oh man, I am so terrible at keeping this thing up to date - let alone updating or keeping promises of updates. How awful of me.

The Spring semester ended, and I told myself that I was going to draw tons over the summer -- so far I've done nothing but play video games (mostly pokemon, and a bit of Tera if you were curious).

Today, I was watching some drawing videos on youtube and I decided I needed to do some sketching. I had planned on working on the Kemetic Hourglass characters - doing revamps, and redesigns and all that rot.

I drew Ibis while in illustration, and I liked how she turned out, but I really want to pull away from that semi-realistic style. I feel like when I draw that way I'm overly critical of how it turns out. I want things to be enjoyable.
I was watching some videos that :iconthe-ez: had done on her youtube - specifically her video about clean pencil lines. I'd never thought to use my kneaded eraser like that. Mostly I used them for charcoal when in class, and I've had a rather iffy relationship with them until now. Though I still don't like the sticky feeling I get from holding one, I've found that a lot of my sketches look cleaner using her methods with the kneaded eraser. I'll definitely be trying it out a bit more.

While getting caught up on some shows and watching youtube, I've done a couple of sketches of Ibis -- one that was a younger version (about 15-16 years old or so, though I may have to adjust it a little), and one of her a bit older with the scar on her face. In the second drawing of Ibis I did today, she seemed a bit more exotic looking, and I really liked that. She was very lovely, despite the scar on her face - so I think I'll be trying to utilize that a little more in further sketches.

I'm going to TRY to draw more with what's left of the summer. I kind of have to remind myself to do it and not be lazy about it. I tend to want to draw more when I watch others draw, so if I keep up with watching speedpaints and the like, I should be alright. I was planning on drawing enough that I would finally figure out what I want my style to be like. I'm still kind of on the fence about how I want to draw. There are a lot of artists here on DA that inspire me, and I think that it's good to have that kind of inspiration. I always feel like drawing when an artist that I enjoy posts new work - especially sketches. I love seeing someone's process.

In particular, right now I feel like the style of art I want to create leans toward artists like Skirtzzz, Fukari, The-Ez, and GeeKei -- somewhere in that range, at least.

Hopefully in the next few days I'll have some sketches and the like to post - including the ones I mentioned of Ibis that I did today. So, fingers crossed I can get out of my rut, off my butt, and post something.

Plusheeps

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 15, 2013, 11:36 AM

School has kept me super busy as of late, with a lot of projects that have needed me to spend a whole lot of time on them -- I never did get to work on my Halloween pictures, which makes me pretty sad. BUT! Now I've got a bunch of doodles that I've been working on while I'm in classes. My Figure Drawing instructor, who also teaches Illustration, was really interested in one drawing that I did:

That was a drawing for my Digital Media Techniques class, but my other instructor loved it so much, she asked me (and encouraged me) to draw a whole bunch of characters in this fashion because she feels as though they would be really great to market. So, you'll see an influx of little plush peeps. Which I may or may not refer to from here on out as Plusheeps. Here's a sketch compilation of a bunch of these little guys that I've done so far, either just because or for other class projects:

So, as you can see, the initial sketch for the illustrator portrait is there, as well as several other little people. I've even thrown in the demons from Straight to Hell in there! Some of these will get thrown into other class projects -- namely the little guy in a fuzzy coat and the snow man. They're probably going to be used for a greeting card project that I have in Digital Media Techniques.

Anyway, hopefully I'll have a ton of these little dudes to put up from here on out. I'm going to try to get a couple of them done on some 6" x 6" bristol that I have, and then ink and color them in, and maybe put them about like paper children. I even thought about putting together a calendar of sorts using this style of character.

Also, since it's super hard for me to thank EVERYONE who gives me a watch or fave, I've added thanks at the bottom of my journal entry -- I do appreciate ALL of the faves and watches, believe me! I will, however, continue to give Llamas in return for Llamas given!

So, hopefully school will calm down a little soon - winter break is on its way, and I'll have a little bit of extra time to get my art on and get some other projects started and all that. Thanks for being so patient with me and all that! Talk to you all soon!

Halloween Art Is Coming!

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 11, 2013, 10:53 AM

It's October. October has to be, absolutely, my favorite month of the year. Pumpkin and cinnamon and spices start showing up everywhere - everything is pumpkin flavor! Every color scheme starts hinting at blacks, purples and oranges. Bottles of special potions, black cats, witches, ghosts, goblins -- who WOULDN'T love this month?!

Even though I'm chock-a-block full of things that I have to do for school, I really want to take whatever extra time I do have to get some Halloween themed illustrations up. A couple of years ago I wanted to do Halloween Pin-up monsters, so I'm going to try to do something like that again this year. Hopefully I'll get a couple done before the month is over. Plus, it will be good practice for figure drawing!

Speaking of school - things are going well. I thought that I was going to become a graphic designer -- because it's probably a great job that you can earn a decent living with, but after taking all these graphic design courses this semester, I've found out that I absolutely loathe it. I hate it so much that I realized that I REALLY don't want to do it. I want to do illustration, storyboarding, key-frame animation -- something where I'm creating beautiful art, not dicking around with fonts and vectors for hours on end creating fifty million different variations of the same stupid logo -- now I realize that animation is drawing the same character over-and-over again, but key-frame animation at least puts that character in a different position further along in the cycle. It's not like putting together a logo, or series of vector icons where only one or two things are different. I just really dis-like the coursework that I've been dealing with that are required for graphic design -- these are all taught by designers, or typographers who do this stuff for a living other than teaching. They say that this is stuff that graphic designers do. I hate it. I dread going to these classes -- the teachers are nice, but the work is just soul-sucking for me. None of it inspires me, or gets my creativity going. But figure drawing -- Figure drawing is one of the classes that I've got this semester, and every time I head into class, I'm happy. I love it. My teacher is excellent (and, as an added bonus, she also teaches illustration which I will be taking next semester). the models give us great poses -- I feel like I've learned a lot from taking the course, and we're only half-way through the semester. Figure drawing has made me want to draw more often -- to get better at drawing the figure, so that I can draw better characters and poses.

I've also gotten quite a bit of feedback from some of my classmates about Straight to Hell -- there are a lot of my classmates who are very eager to read the comic after my brief introduction of it in some of my classes. This, of course, gives me reason to want to work on it more. So hopefully I'll be getting more pages up soon, and more artwork for the characters, since I've managed to get a better design down on them. I'm still not quite sure how I want to draw the strip, but it'll work out fine when I finally decide, I think.

I haven't had a lot of time for social interaction -- I feel as though my friendships have suffered because of the courseload of homework I've had to deal with this semester. I'm taking five classes, and three of those classes are design courses, one is art history, and the other is figure drawing -- the only class I don't have homework for is figure drawing. And I've actually been giving myself homework for that class! I try to draw from a figure reference at least once a day -- and I'm going to try to start drawing five to ten poses when i've got breaks between classes. I've found a great resource where I can set up timed figure exposures over at Quickposes.com -- so if you're looking for a way to get some timed ref drawings in, I suggest that site!

Anyway, it's friday. I've got off, but I've got to do a ton of studying for my art history mid-term, so, that's about all the time I can drop on this entry. Hopefully soon you'll see some non-school work go up -- I want to do those Halloween pics!!!!

Laters!

Back to School

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 27, 2013, 4:44 AM

Some people may have already started school -- high school or middle school. I, too, am heading back. Come September 3rd, I'll be attending university full-time once again. I've finally finalized my transfer from my old school: Wilmington University, to my new school: Rowan University!

They've accepted 69 of my total credits from Wilmington, and I'm able to focus on a degree in graphic design! Bonus, I get to take Illustration and Japanese classes! I'm quite excited about that.

So, there will be an influx of work coming soon, though most of it will be class work. This first semester I will be taking five classes -- Digital Media & Technique, Typography, Visual Identification, Art Appreciation, and Figure Drawing.
I expect there to be work to upload from almost all of these classes at some point.

I'm pretty excited, because unlike Wilmington; Rowan has a dedicated art program. None of that pick a track and pray that it covers what you need to know for what you want to do with your life.

All in all I'm fairly excited about going to a new school. My mascot is changing from a Wildcat to an Owl!

:iconversusplz:

Wish me luck with my new school, and look forward to the new art that's going to be coming -- and hopefully a better artist will emerge at the end of all of this!

If you're looking for something a bit more large-scale or full-bodied, shoot me a note and I'll let you know how much that goes for. These are usually the easiest and quickest to pump out. If you want a commission, shoot me a note, and let me know what you're looking for. Also make sure to put in a description -- be as detailed as you want, but try to keep it short as well. References are even better!  Right now I'm only able to accept payments via paypal, so if you don't have paypal or the ability to get and use it, I won't be able to do commissions for you at present, sorry for the inconvenience. Otherwise, feel free to shoot me a message here, on tumblr, twitter, or even facebook to get in touch with me!

Thanks!

So I've once again started attempting to draw things every day! I feel like I've been getting closer and closer and closer to what I could call my own style. Here's the work from the past couple of days:

Before that, there were a few others:

I've also made a community for my upcoming comic that I'll hopefully be getting started with fairly soon:

:iconstr8-2-h3ll:

Of course there's a link to the site as well as the tumblr on my main deviant page, if you're interested in keeping up with that. I will most likely upload any strips that are created here as well as on the website and on the tumblr page. Character designs are coming along fairly well -- I'm finding it much easier to draw in the style I'm working with, which tells me that it's fairly natural, so that's something to look forward to.

Class will also be starting for me fairly soon -- there's still a lot of things that I need to get done for school before it starts, but hopefully things will get sorted, and everything will work out. It's pretty stressful, but I'll be happier once it's all sorted.

Look forward to more drawings over the next few days. Hopefully I'll have more work each day to upload. I'll be uploading a lot of monsters, because I'm trying to get better at drawing them...

Hey, hey you. Yea, you! Do you like table top gaming like D&D but wish there were a more story oriented, less combat focused table top game full of cute characters and heart warming stories? WELL LET ME TELL YOU, BUB, I'VE GOT THE GAME FOR YOU!

But seriously, GSS was translated by some friends of mine, and the kickstarter is up right now. It's a great game and I know a lot of people enjoy it because in LESS THAN A FULL DAY they more than DOUBLED their initial asking goal! People seem to be really into this game. I think it's a very cute game, and that anyone who wants a new experience to table top gaming, or story telling is in for a real treat, and should definitely go check it out! Here's a link to the kickstarter!

So please, go check it out, and if it looks like something you'd be interested in, by all means, throw some cash their way! Every little bit helps them out, and will also lead to more projects like this!

Hey there everyone! I'm still going through a little bit of an art block, but I've been working on crafts at the very least. I've also just recently done a little sprucing up of my deviantart page, so come on over and check it out! I will hopefully be uploading some more things sooner rather than later. I've got a portfolio review to get through coming up so that I can change schools and change my major to Graphic Design officially. The school that I'm hoping to get into actually has a dedicated art department, unlike my previous school, so I'm really hoping that it works out for me right now.

Had a few computer issues recently (like, in the past couple of days). There was a power outage this past week sometime during the middle of the night. I didn't think much of it until I went to turn on my computer the next day after the power had long since returned. The computer would boot up, but when windows started up, it would just freeze up for an extended period and reboot again. So, I did what any somewhat tech-savvy person would do -- I tried to do a repair from my windows disk. I even tried to do a restore to a previous day, but nothing worked -- everything I tried just resulted in the same situation: Windows refused to boot up and kept saying that I needed to repair it. Finally my boyfriend gets home from work -- where he works on computers ALL DAY LONG, and says that we may as well just reformat, but he runs a utility that should allow me to pull files off of the hard drive before we wipe it. The utility crashes as soon as I try. Puzzled by this, my boyfriend runs another utility to check to see if there's anything wrong with my computer's memory (which is brand new, as of this past year, mind you). As it turns out, the hard drive died. We cleared the mother board and memory with the check, so the only thing that was left was the hard drive itself, which wasn't really all that old.

Thankfully, I kept most of my important files on an external hard drive, so there was no art or anything major that was lost -- to my knowledge, anyway. My boyfriend replaced my hard drive with one of his old ones (which he is sorely butthurt about, since he really didn't want to use it, but it was the only one that would work since the other HDs we have are too old to be compatible with my current motherboard). We re-installed windows, and everything seems to be working well. I've got to re-install all my programs and fidget with settings and the like, but so far things are fine. I did manage to crash my computer with Photoshop today, which was new. The computer went into a memory dump thing, which is really odd. I may have to mention this to my boyfriend tomorrow, since I was also having some problems with Livestream acting as if there wasn't enough processing power or memory to run it. Everything seems to be installed properly, and the onlything inside of the tower that was shifted, moved, or adjusted was the hard drive, so nothing should be loose.

I should have like... 16g of memory. Right now, according to my Performance monitor, I'm only using like 2-7% of my computer's CPU and less than 3G of memory. >:I wtf computer.

Anyway, things seem to be working, since I'm writing this out ON my computer instead of like...on my boyfriend's work iPad.

I'm hoping to get back to working on some Straight To Hell concepts and the like. i really feel like that comic idea could really go somewhere. Even if that somewhere is only pissing off a whole lot of people. Should be fun times.

Thanks for dealing with all my lapses, and pauses, and bullshittery. Hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things really soon.

-M

ART BLOCK BLAHNESS

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 21, 2012, 6:47 AM
  • Listening to: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
  • Reading: Game of Thrones
  • Playing: Ragnarok Online/Skyrim

I've had the biggest art block as of late, and it's really killer since I've got some commissions from friends to work on. It's one of my longer-lasting bouts of art-blockyness, and it's really irritating!

So, when my friend mentioned that he started playing iRO again (that's International Ragnarok Online, for those that don't know), I decided that I'd put my hand in and start playing again.

I first started playing Ragnarok during, uh, the Alpha, I think. And I think that was back in like...2002 or 2003, so...I've been playing the game for a long time. It's definitely changed a lot since then, and things are SO VERY DIFFERENT than I remember them being ten years ago when I played hardcore. But the game is still hella fun, and inspirational for me. It's always a game I can fall back into playing easily and love no matter what.

I also hoped that by making characters and investing time in them I'd be inspired to draw them -- this would help to fix my art block -- at least that's what I hoped.

Yesterday (Nov, 20th 2012) was my one and a half year anniversary with my boyfriend. We had planned on getting together and going out for dinner and the like, but since we had to pay an arm and a leg for air fare out to California for the holidays this year, we opted to just stay home and I made curry. I ended up taking a nap during the day and had a fairly strange dream -- I had this...collar of barnacles and anemones and things like that. They were part of my body, as if I were a living aspect of coral or something. It was really strange. like....the anemone were coming out of my skin -- and it was just this sort of collar of them, and I had a crown, bracelets, and anklets of small silvery-white swimming fish. It was actually a really lovely sort of dream, but I woke up somewhat confused. I did a quick sketch of the collar of barnacles and anemone, but I don't think that I'll post that up anytime soon. I may draw something more that deals with this dream later, but for now writing it down so that I have reference to look at later is good enough.

It was AFTER doing that quick sketch that I started working on this picture:

I was helping my aforementioned friend level up his Priest, but he was having some computer trouble and the like so I was just sort of sitting around with my monk. I decided that now was as good a time as any to try and sketch so I started working in my small (like 5x7ish) sketchbook. So, off-and-on for...most of the night, to be honest...I worked on that sketch. I was trying to focus on details and just get something nice down. In the end, I think it turned out really nicely. I decided that I'd scan it in today and add some color to it:

It's my iRO Monk, Casimira. Since I was playing as her at the time, it made sense that I'd draw her. At some point I plan on drawing my Rogue, Lucia Chimera.

Why, yes, the names ARE from Catherynne M. Valente's PALIMPSEST book. Character names, places, and anything relating to that book is sort of go-to for me anymore.

Anyway. I'm pretty pleased with how BOTH of these turned out, even if the second version is just kind of slap-dash and only took an hour or so to put together. It marks the beginning of me climbing out of the abyss that is art-block! I need to finish commissions really soon!!

Hope you like it! And if you play iRO (iro.ragnarokonline.com/) on the Valkyrie server, look for me there! My characters are: Casimira (Monk), Pann Kou (Blacksmith), and LuciaChimera (Rogue). I'm currently mostly playing on Lucia because she's about to Transcend. :) Casimira isn't far behind her!

But yea, if you play, let me know your in-game names, and you can add me to your friends list!
