Hello everyone!

So you may notice that my main page is going through some design and color changes. While I love the old dark, grungey stripes - I feel like they were just too dark. So I decided instead to go with something a little bit lighter. So, Mint, white, and Gold it is!

In other news, I'm still doing the daily sketches -- But I've also started doing Copic Marker drawings. I'm not very skilled in markers, so I'm still practicing at the moment, but I'm determined to get better with them and hopefully get my Copic certification eventually.

To practice with my new markers, I've started drawing a new series of images - Modern style Disney Ladies (mostly princesses). So far here's what I've got:

I started with Snow, and went down the line of films, in order. So: Cinderella, and then Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Next I'm going to work on either Elonwy from The Black Cauldron or Ariel from The Little Mermaid. While they're not really serious drawings, and are just practice images for marker coloring, I'm really enjoying how they're turning out so far.

School has been pretty hectic and crazy, but I'm surviving somehow. I graduate in the spring, and I've got my portfolio site in the works (it's live right now, but not really complete). My Illustration teacher is thankfully going to be helping me with how to promote my site, and what to put on it and the like so that I'll hopefully get a decent job. She's got so much faith in me, and really loves my work. So I can't help but feel as though I could do something great eventually!

I am really enjoying these markers. While it was a really expensive investment, I feel as though it was totally worth it, just like my investment in colored pencils and watercolor pencils. These are all things that I will probably use on a semi-regular basis. I also picked up a wafer-light box and a daylight desk lamp for when I have to work later in the evening or at night. They've both been super awesome, and I'm really glad that I picked them up.

One of the other things that I ordered for myself recently is a Midori style travel journal that I plan on using as a travel sketchbook where I can switch out and customize the insides. I bought some Moleskine Cahier booklets to put inside once the journal jacket arrives (it's in the mail). I've decorated most of the books with cardstock and fabric tape, as well as some distress ink around the edges to give them a bit more of a used or old-fashioned look. Once the journal cover arrives, I'll take some pictures and post them up. I'm quite excited to have a cute journal.
The pattern of the journal is actually the mint and gold bird background that I've got up, and there's an elastic band with gold and mint chevrons that holds a pen. I liked the combination so much that I decided I wanted to shift my site looks to Mint, gold, and white. I have to say that I'm enjoying the brighter colors already. It's a lot of work going through and updating all the galleries, and graphics. But in the end, I think it will be worth it.
I think what will take the longest is going through and updating my social media sites - especially Tumblr, and twitter and suchlike.

Oh well, I'll get it all sorted out eventually, but for now, those are the updates. Expect more Disney Lady marker doodles in the coming weeks!

XOXO
-M
